Senior Manager – HR Solutions

The Senior Manager Consultant plays a critical role in Salo’s ability to achieve our strategic and operational goals.

Summary:

Salo has built a set of services and capabilities around some of the most pressing issues faced by business leaders to enable them to meet their strategic and operating objectives.  Our Advisory Services combine deep functional expertise and a practical hands-on approach to help clients improve their operating performance.  Our scope of services includes advisory and consulting solutions that improve process efficiency and effectiveness.

 

Core Responsibilities:

The Senior Manager Consultant role includes the following responsibilities:

  • Effectively plan and manage large, complex projects, or multiple smaller projects
  • Leads significant portion of sales/scoping effort for new clients
  • Provide deep insights into engagement issues, best practices, and potential solutions; identify and implement opportunities to improve engagement profitability
  • Ensure that work is well-structured from outset and that appropriate resources are deployed on engagement teams; course-corrects as needed
  • Maintain familiarity with advanced application of methodologies and integrates them appropriately into client solutions
  • Ensure consistent delivery of superior quality work on time and on budget and that conclusions and recommendations are credible, actionable and impactful
  • Bring intellectual leadership to analysis efforts; significantly contribute to advancing knowledge in assigned area; develop and deliver internal training/knowledge-sharing
  • Ensure that team written materials and documents are accurate, succinct, persuasive and audience-appropriate
  • Leverage internal and external relationships to identify and expand business opportunities
  • The position requires the time commitment and travel to be expected with serving clients across the Minneapolis/Saint Paul marketplace
  • Contributes to the success of the organization by helping others accomplish job results; learning new skills needed by the team; finding new ways to help the team
  • Mentor and support career planning for managers and senior consultants

The ideal Senior Manager candidate should:

  • Be a respected and sought-after people manager and developer; inspires teams and clients to achieve at highest levels; strengthens team dynamics
  • Be a trusted advisor with an established network of mid- and executive-level relationships within the finance function
  • Be recognized for expertise, having contributed to a body of insights about issues and trends
  • Have a strong commitment to professional and client service excellence
  • Have an ability to succeed outside the structure and support of a large firm
  • Generate key ideas and conceptual frameworks to guide research and analysis
  • Create work plans, bringing multiple project management and analytical tools/methodologies to bear
  • Establish measures of success and communicate project status to the engagement Principal
  • Have excellent presentation, communication and influencing skills

 

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree required, preferably related to functional area of focus
  • Relevant master’s degree from a premier university is desirable but not required

 

Preferred Certifications (May not be active, but candidates should be eligible for reactivation):

SPHR, SHRM-SCP, HRCI, Prosci Change Management, PMP, Executive Coaching

Qualifications & Experience:

  • A minimum of 10 years of progressive, relevant experience
  • Prior consulting experience at a professional services firm
  • Have entrepreneurial and/or operating experience; or entrepreneurial experience in the early stages of developing a business is a plus
  • A proven track record of leading projects in area of expertise using the consulting process, working with and persuading clients, and identifying opportunities to expand scope of client value creation preferably in the Minneapolis/Saint Paul marketplace
  • Experience using a consulting process and methodology, working with clients
  • Broad experience over a diverse range of industry functions and/or across multiple industry players
  • Demonstrated ability to develop a deep understanding of industry issues, trends and technologies
  • Experienced with project problem diagnosis, solution development, client communications, facilitation of decision making, documentation, managing client expectations, project profitability, and team leadership
  • Experienced in business development and building a practice
  • Demonstrated ability to recruit, develop and mentor staff
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and aptitude; track record of personal and professional success
