John Owen

Finance Manager
Internal Finance

How would you describe your role, purpose or the outcomes you drive?

I facilitate decision making by providing timely financials and guidance to the business, while partnering with them to introduce new processes and analytics that help us achieve our objectives.

How has your previous work experience prepared you for your role with Salo?

My previous experience with multiple large organizations afforded me the privilege to build and define roles and processes, while interacting with various levels of management and subject matter experts. I also learned skills ranging from the very technical and systems related side of financial analysis to project management; all of which apply in my current role at Salo.

How do you achieve business outcomes?

I have found that communication and collaboration are the best and most efficient ways to achieve business outcomes.  When people are informed and feel they have a voice during a process, they tend to feel vested and more engaged; which is key for overall success.

What impact did your upbringing have on the way you approach your work and life?

I grew up in a family environment where trust and belief in one another was paramount; always sharing in one another’s successes and failures.  This has shaped my personal and professional mindset by helping keep me grounded, knowing that success is so much sweeter when you can share it.

How would your friends describe you?

My friends would say I am very organized (in my own way) and particular.

List three interesting things about you, but only one of them needs be true.

I have lived in Minnesota my entire life, but have never been on ice skates. I have been to Augusta National Golf Club. I once delivered pizzas within a 170 square mile delivery area.

What is your favorite thing about working at Salo?

The people are amazing and make the work day feel more like a crazy family gathering than a typical, isolated office environment.
