Laura Best

Marketing Director

How would you describe your role, purpose or the outcomes you drive?

My job is to lead the team that leverages marketing strategies to drive business success. As today’s audiences are so sophisticated in their consumption of “marketing” (and as more people search for alternative ways to work or source talent), we need to reach them where they are with the content and experiences that will help them be successful. If we do that in a way that elevates and strengths our brand, we then also see success. So, my role is multifaceted – it requires a combination of strategic planning, creative ideation, operational enhancements, team development and day to day tactical execution. Ultimately, I hope our efforts will drive Salo results, and also help every person we engage with be happier and more successful.

How has your previous work experience prepared you for your role with Salo?

I’ve spent the last 20 years working across marketing channels to create experiences for consumer and business-to-business brands of all sizes. I’ve lead teams and initiatives on the corporate and agency side, so I see “both sides” of the marketing world. I also lead an organization called Passion Collective, which helps women create positive change in their lives, so this gives me very real insight into how individuals are looking to create happiness and success.

How do you achieve business outcomes?

A combination of preparation, obsession with the details and shooting for the stars. Having a real understanding of what we’re trying to accomplish and what our audiences need is crucial in hitting the mark with marketing activities; so I’m a huge believer in using intelligence to guide decisions, while also making room for the “sprinkles” of personality that create unique experiences.

What impact did your upbringing have on the way you approach your work and life?

I was taught to work hard, have pride in what I do, and be determined and optimistic in the face of challenge. Most of all, my family believed in me and never doubted that I would accomplish what I wanted.

How would your friends describe you?

Passionate, devoted to her family, loves tennis, can bake a wicked cake, always organizing something.

List three interesting things about you, but only one of them needs be true.

I once starred in a South Korean chicken broth commercial, Brian May of Queen is a family friend, and my real name is Martha.

What is your favorite thing about working at Salo?

I love the energy – upbeat, hard working, good-natured and regardless of the path ahead, I feel that we’re doing what we’re doing for the right reasons. I feel that we have a huge opportunity to help people have better lives in the work we do.
