Nathan Howard

Customer Experience Specialist

interim human resources director

How would you describe your role, purpose or the outcomes you drive?

As a member of the Customer Experience team, my role is to ensure that the office is constantly running in an efficient manner. I provide support to help the other departments achieve their goals each week.

How has your previous work experience prepared you for your role with Salo?

Previously I worked as a client services representative at the University of St. Thomas. During my three years in that position, I was able to learn many things related to IT, administrative services, as well as customer relations with the members of the St. Thomas community.

How do you achieve business outcomes?

I like to apply the famous saying, “Dress for the job you want, not the job you have,” to as many aspects of my life as possible. Whether that’s going the extra mile for my company by helping out with projects for another department, or going out of my way to make a positive impact on someone else, I always try to make an impact. If you go above and beyond what’s expected of you, the outcome will be worth it.

What impact did your upbringing have on the way you approach your work and life?

I was raised in a competitive sports environment where teamwork meant a lot. I learned at a very young age that when working within a team environment that you are only as strong as your weakest link. Because of that, I have always been a person willing to help, especially in a workplace environment. I also developed a fondness for problem solving.

How would your friends describe you?

I would like to think they would say I’m hilarious, confident, and trustworthy. However, knowing my friends, they would most likely bring up the fact that I’m a total know-it-all when it comes to pop culture, especially music, movies and television.

List three interesting things about you, but only one of them needs be true.

I have visited every state within the continental United States. I have coached youth football summer camps alongside future hall of fame football players such as Larry Fitzgerald, Ed Reed, and Adrian Peterson. Through my years of playing football and lacrosse, I have racked up a total of five concussions.

What is your favorite thing about working at Salo?

The people. From day one, the environment has been nothing but a warm and welcoming. I can’t even keep track of how many people personally introduced themselves and offered help with anything I needed. It was an extremely easy transition and I credit that to my awesome coworkers.
